What’s Emotional Maturity?

Emotional maturity is characterized by the ability to think through issues and interact with others in an appropriate manner, with the goal being to make a given situation better, not worse.

The best way to do this is to accurately recognize emotions in yourself, as well as others, and respond constructively.

Emotional maturity is usually, but not always, developed with age, although everyone matures, (or refuses to) at different speeds.

Emotional maturity means that somebody is fair in their interactions with others, does not get overly sad, angry (or even effusive for that matter) in their daily interactions.

Being kind, fair, understanding and empathetic in the face of complicated and sometimes painful emotions is a sign of emotional maturity.

Blaming others for a problem that you are at least partially responsible for creating is a sign of emotional immaturity.
